REXBURG — Three Brigham Young University-Idaho students were cited with misdemeanor disturbing the peace early Tuesday morning after a prank went a little too far.

Rexburg Police Chief Shane Turman tells EastIdahoNews.com that some female roommates weren’t getting along. At around 12:45 a.m., several of the roommates left the apartment and found a male student playing with a Nerf-like toy gun.

“They talked the (man) into going back to (the women’s) apartment, going into their bedrooms and start shooting,” Turman said.

The male student then entered the apartment while the other female roommates were sleeping and shot at them with the toy gun.

The toy darts hurt no one; however, Turman said the sight of someone bursting into their room with a gun terrified the victims of the prank.

Police were called, they located the male student and he apologized. However, the roommates still requested the pranksters be charged. Police cited the man and two of the female students with misdemeanor disturbing the peace.
