REXBURG — A Jackson man pleaded guilty on Valentine’s Day to murdering his ex-girlfriend and killing her unborn baby in a cabin near Driggs.

Erik Ohlson admitted that he shot 39-year-old Jennifer Nalley to death on July 5, 2016. Nalley was 8-12 weeks pregnant.

As part of a plea agreement, Ohlson pleaded guilty Thursday to first-degree murder in connection to Nalley’s death and voluntary manslaughter in connection to the child Nalley was carrying. He was originally charged with two counts of first-degree murder.

Teton County Prosecuting Attorney Billie Siddoway had sought the death penalty but it has been taken off the table in exchange for the guilty plea, an employee in Siddoway’s office told EastIdahoNews.com Thursday evening.

Siddoway and Ohlson’s court-appointed attorneys, Jim Archibald and John Thomas, are free to argue Ohlson’s punishment at his sentencing hearing on May 9 and 10 in Teton County.
