Idaho Falls School District 91 Superintendent George Boland announces retirement

IDAHO FALLS — George Boland, superintendent of Idaho Falls School District 91, has announced his retirement, effective at the end of the 2020-21 school year.

Boland has spent more than 40 years in public education and the last 15 years as the District 91 superintendent.

“It has been an honor to serve the students, parents, patrons and staff of Idaho Falls School District 91,” Boland said in a press release. “I am very appreciative of the opportunity I have had to shape this district, the school district where I attended school, where I graduated from high school and where my children attended school. It has been a rewarding experience for which I will always be grateful.”

The announcement Friday came as no surprise to the school board, district spokesperson Margaret Wimborne said. The board was expecting a decision and they plan to discuss the process to replace him at a board meeting Wednesday.

During his time serving District 91, Boland was influential in upgrading facilities, shifting ninth graders to high school and encouraging investment in technology and technology infrastructure.

“Superintendent Boland’s dedication to the educational excellence of the students, teachers and staff of District 91 is unequaled,” board chairwoman Lara Hill said in the news release. “He is very well respected by his peers, colleagues and the community as a whole and he will be sorely missed.”
