Man gets 2 weeks in jail after calling teenager to motel room to make him feel better

CHUBBUCK — A local man will spend 15 days in jail after enticing a teenage girl to come “make him feel better” at a Chubbuck motel.

Gunnar Von Schriltz, 20, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor enticing of children, and Magistrate Judge Thomas Clark ordered the jail time and 18 months of supervised probation. As part of a plea agreement made with Bannock County Prosecutors, a felony charge of children enticement was reduced to a misdemeanor.

The sentence given by Clark was 120 days, but 90 of them were suspended. Court records show Von Schriltz already spent 15-days in the Bannock County Jail, so that means he will only have to spend just over two more weeks behind bars.

The Chubbuck Police Department arrested Von Schriltz in September to the Motel 6 on West Burnside Avenue to the report of a disturbance. When officers arrived, the girl’s father was in the lobby. He said that his daughter might have been sexually assaulted by 20-year-old Gunnar Von Schriltz, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The teen told investigators that Von Schriltz said he was having a bad day over Snapchat. He reportedly told her that she was the only person who could make him feel better.

Thinking there were more people at the motel, the teen said she went over to talk and drink alcohol. She said she knocked on Von Schriltz’s door, and he let her in. The two talked and, she alleged, Von Schriltz started kissing her and removing her pants.

She hit Von Schriltz and ran out of the room before police were called.

Officers started talking to Von Schriltz at the motel, and he said he did invite the teen over to talk after having a rough day. However, Von Schriltz’s version of events differs. Von Schriltz said she kissed him, and he stopped the encounter, knowing she was underage. He said she then left the room.

“Gunnar explained that he had ‘shot up’ someone’s vehicle who is still good friends with (the teen),” according to court documents. “He started to think he was being set up.”

When confronted by the accusations, Von Schriltz got emotional, saying it didn’t happen. He then said the girl did send him inappropriate pictures on Snapchat.

Detectives looked at the Snapchat conversations between Von Schriltz and the teen. In their search, investigators say they found multiple nude and inappropriate photos of her when she was 15 years old that were sent to Von Schriltz in July, according to court documents.

She told officers that Von Schriltz had asked for the photos on Facetime. Von Schriltz said he may have asked for a “booty” picture at one point but was not sure, according to court documents.

Because of the photos, officers arrested Von Schriltz for enticement. As they searched his pockets, officers say they found three condoms. There was a gun on the table in the motel room at the time of the incident, police said.

Von Schriltz was never charged with anything related to the alleged sexual assault or the weapon.

In addition to the jail time and probation, Von Schriltz will also have to pay $657.50 in fees and fines.
