Disneyland cancels its annual pass program

(CNN) — Repeat visits to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure haven’t been possible since the theme parks closed at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. And now, the parks’ annual pass program is officially coming to an end.

Disney Parks announced Wednesday that it will cancel annual passes and replace them with a new program. Eligible annual pass holders will be issued prorated refunds, the company said, the amount of which can be checked here.

“Due to the continued uncertainty of the pandemic and limitations around the reopening of our California theme parks, we will be issuing appropriate refunds for eligible Disneyland Resort Annual Passports and sunsetting the current program,” Disneyland President Ken Potrock said in a statement. “We are currently developing new membership offerings that will utilize consumer insights to deliver choice, flexibility and value for our biggest fans.”

It’s unclear when exactly the theme parks will open and when the new program will be unveiled. Disney had been pushing California Gov. Gavin Newsom to allow its theme parks to reopen for much of last year, though it wasn’t permitted to under the state’s restrictions and coronavirus case numbers.

Daily Covid-19 cases in Orange County, where Disney’s parks are located, have been rising sharply since December.

Disneyland reopened Wednesday as a “super” Covid-19 vaccination site, CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS reported. Orange County officials say the site will be able to accommodate thousands of residents daily.
