IDAHO FALLS — A person using a grill in Idaho Falls found a device that prompted the response of the regional bomb squad.

It unfolded on Saturday around 8:30 p.m. at the home near St. Clair Road and 1st Street. An individual had gone out to use a grill and discovered an unknown item inside the grill resting on the grates. The person directed the owner of the grill to call 911, according to an Idaho Falls Police Department news release.

Multiple officers with the Idaho Falls Police Department and the Idaho Falls Fire Department rushed to the area.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Idaho Falls Police officers evacuated the residence and nearby residences,” the news release reads.

The Idaho Falls Regional Bomb Squad arrived, evaluated the situation and took possession of the device.

Officers and firefighters were able to leave the area by 10 p.m. and allowed neighbors to return to their homes.

Police say the device and the identity of the person who placed the device remain under investigation.
