Three horses killed in rollover crash near Kelly Canyon Road

RIRIE — Three horses are dead after a rollover crash happened earlier on Wednesday when a pickup truck carrying them suddenly stopped working.

The call came in around 1:30 p.m. near Kelly Canyon Road. Central Fire District Chief Carl Anderson tells EastIdahoNews.com that there were three young men inside a pickup truck that was carrying a horse trailer.

“Coming down off that road, there are a couple of cattle guards, and so the driver said when he crossed the last cattle guard, his truck died on him. (He) lost all electronics, lost his brakes, he lost his steering, he lost everything,” said Anderson.

Three horses were ejected and killed from the crash as the truck and trailer rolled over. All the young men, whom Anderson believes were under 20 years old, were OK. One of them was taken to the hospital for back and chest pain but does not appear to have any serious injuries.

All three of them were wearing seatbelts.

“Had they not been wearing seatbelts, you never know,” said Anderson.
