Blackfoot woman facing multiple felonies after allegedly using a stolen credit card

POCATELLO — A woman police say stole two credit cards and used one of them multiple times has been charged with two felonies.

Cheyenne Dawn Bruce, 26, faces charges of criminal possession of a stolen credit card and grand theft by possession of account numbers, court records show.

Pocatello police received a call reporting fraudulent charges made with a stolen bank card on June 18, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

The caller told police that Bruce had stolen two cards and some change, then used the one of the cards to make several purchases between June 6 and 18. No fraudulent purchases had been made with the second card, the victim told police.

Officers spoke with the victim again on July 11 and learned that a second investigation had been launched by the Blackfoot Police Department after other fraudulent charges made in that area were discovered.

Pocatello police officers contacted numerous businesses searching for surveillance footage of the fraudulent purchases.

One grocery store provided several videos with one showing a woman in a hooded sweatshirt making a fraudulent purchase. Another video provided by the store showed what officers believed to be the same woman sitting on a bench in the store. The second video showed the woman’s face well enough for officers to identify the woman as Bruce.

A separate video shows a man make a purchase with the same stolen card, the affidavit says.

On July 27, Pocatello police learned that Bruce had been arrested in Blackfoot on unrelated charges. She was booked at the Bingham County Jail, then released.

Bruce was arrested on Feb. 7 by Bannock County Sheriff’s deputies. She was booked into the Bannock County Jail and is being held on a $10,000 bond.

The male who officers believe to be involved has not yet been identified.

Though Bruce has been charged with these crimes, it does not necessarily mean she committed them. Everyone is presumed innocent until they are proven guilty.

If she is found guilty, Bruce could be sentenced to as much as 19 years in prison.

She is scheduled to appear in court before Magistrate Judge David Cousin for a preliminary hearing on Feb. 21.
