The following is a news release from Idaho State Police on Thursday afternoon.

The Idaho State Police are investigating a six-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2023, at approximately 6:57 a.m. at the intersection of South Yellowstone Highway and West 49th South in Idaho Falls.

A 2013 Ford Taurus, driven by a 18-year-old female from Basalt, entered the intersection and was struck by a westbound 2000 Kenworth semi-truck with two trailers, driven by a 27-year-old male from Blackfoot.

Both vehicles crossed into the eastbound lanes striking the following vehicles:

  • A 2013 Ford F150 pickup, driven by a 38-year-old male, from Idaho Falls.
  • A 2012 Hyundai Genesis, driven by a 22-year-old male, from Shelley.
  • A 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe, driven by a 38-year-old female, from Shelley.
  • A 2017 Ram Pickup, driven by a 62-year-old male, from Shelley.

The driver of the Taurus was taken to a local hospital and succumbed to her injuries.

All drivers were wearing seatbelts.

The eastbound lanes are currently blocked.

The crash is under investigation by the Idaho State Police.

BONNEVILLE COUNTY — Troopers are investigating a six-vehicle crash that sent one woman to the hospital.

According to Idaho State Police Lt. Marvin Crain, troopers were called to South Yellowstone Highway and West 49th South in Bonneville County around 7 a.m. on Thursday. The crash involved six vehicles, including a semi, he said.

“It looks like somebody failed to yield at the stop sign,” Crain said.

Idaho 511 said all northbound lanes of Yellowstone Highway were blocked. As of 9 a.m., troopers were still cleaning the scene.

Idaho Falls Fire Department spokeswoman Kerry Hammon said firefighters extricated and transported a woman to a local hospital. She was a driver and is in critical condition, Hammon said.

No other patients were taken by ambulance, Hammon said.
