I-84 crash kills one, hospitalizes two others

MOUNTAIN HOME — One person is dead and two others are in the hospital after a crash on Interstate 84 Friday evening. The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. near milepost 81 in Elmore County, west of Mountain Home, according to a news release from Idaho State Police.

A GMC Sierra, driven by a 36-year-old man from Mountain Home, was heading west on I-84 when it lost control. The truck crossed over the median and into eastbound traffic, where it collided with a Kia, police said.

Both vehicles reportedly came to rest on the right eastbound shoulder after the crash.

The driver of the Kia, a 30-year-old Rupert man, died on scene. Authorities noted he wasn’t wearing a seat belt.

The passenger of the Kia, a 52-year-old woman, was taken to a local hospital via ambulance, police said. She was wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the GMC was also taken to the hospital in an ambulance. He wasn’t wearing a seat belt, according to authorities.

The road was blocked for about four hours to allow emergency personnel to assist those involved and clear the scene.
