Coroner determines what happened to man found dead inside SUV
Published at | Updated atPOCATELLO — A local man was found dead over the weekend near the Portneuf Wellness Complex, according to the Bannock County Coroner’s Office.
On Saturday at 11:30 a.m., the Pocatello Police Department received a call about a man passed out inside an SUV.
The vehicle was in a field next to Jerome Street and Olympus Drive, Bannock County Coroner Torey Danner told EastIdahoNews.com.
Danner said the field is used as a makeshift parking lot due to events at the Portneuf Wellness Complex.
There was a large law enforcement response in the area.
Upon arrival, police found a man who was unconscious and not breathing. Danner said it was determined he had died by suicide.
“Normally, we don’t report on suicides, but the fact is that it was in a public area. People were coming and going,” Danner said.
Due to the nature of the incident, his name will not be released.
Danner added this was an isolated incident and that there was no threat to the public.
September is National Suicide Prevention Month.
