The Idaho Falls Police Department issued the following statement to local media Saturday just after 9 a.m.:

“Kyle was located shortly before 9 a.m. this morning and is safe. Thank you to our community members for keeping an eye (out) for him and helping to get him safely home.”

IDAHO FALLS — Police are searching for an endangered teenager who has been missing since Friday evening.

Kyle Scharer, 16, has high-functioning autism and was last seen on Meppen Drive in Idaho Falls around 6 p.m., according to the Idaho Falls Police Department.

Kyle has short brown hair, brown eyes, is approximately 5’ 10” and weighs 140 lbs. He was wearing a blue and yellow Fallout hoodie, blue jeans and Marine Corp-style brown boots when he was last seen.

He left his home on foot with a pillowcase full of belongings, according to police, and he may try to head to the Rigby area.
