Power County to appoint new magistrate judge. Here are the applicants

AMERICAN FALLS — The Sixth Judicial District Magistrates Commission will be appointing a new magistrate judge this year.

According to a news release from the Sixth District Trial Court Administrator’s Office, Magistrate Judge Paul Laggis will retire on July 31. The commission has determined the applicants who could potentially take the judgeship.

The applicants include:

  • John Scott Andre, Deputy Idaho State Public Defender
  • Brock H. Bischoff, Power County Prosecuting Attorney in American Falls
  • Richard Anthony Cortes, Staff Attorney for the Idaho Supreme Court
  • Jessalyn Rose Hopkin, Deputy Idaho State Public Defender
  • Trenton Alan McRae, Canyon County Deputy Prosecutor
  • Michael Joshua Morrissey, Deputy Idaho State Public Defender
  • Scott Alexander Pearson, Bannock County Deputy Prosecutor
  • JaNiece Price, Bannock County Deputy Prosecutor
  • Stephanie Ann Ray, Deputy Idaho State Public Defender
  • Janine Patrice Reynard, Private Attorney at Avery Law
  • Adam Michael Strong, Magistrate Judge in Boise County

Evaluation questionnaires on the applicants will be sent to attorneys statewide. Evaluation forms for public comment may be obtained from the Sixth District Trial Court Administrator’s Office, 624 E. Center, Room 307, Pocatello, Idaho 83201, your local county courthouse, by phone at 208-236-7071, or by email at jdye@idcourts.gov.

“Any individuals with personal knowledge regarding the qualification of the applicants are urged to complete the evaluation form,” says the release.

Evaluations on the magistrate judge applicants should be returned to the Trial Court Administrator’s Office at 624 E. Center, Room 307, Pocatello, ID 83201 or by email at jdye@idcourts.gov no later than May 26, 2025 at 5 p.m.
