Sugar-Salem sweeps Mountain Rivers Conference honors after a run to a second state title

EASTERN IDAHO — It was a clean sweep of the Mountain Rivers Conference baseball honors for two-time state champion Sugar-Salem.
Dawson McInelly earned Player of the Year honors after hitting .558 with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs. He also finished the season 8-0 with a 0.31 ERA on the mound.
Jackson Gardner, who also had a solid year at the plate, was named Pitcher of the Year after finishing 8-1 with a 1.57 ERA while striking out 72 batters in 44.2 innings.
Will Chappell was selected Hitter of the Year after batting .488 with eight homers, 14 doubles and 43 RBIs.
The Diggers’ Brady Gardner was tabbed Coach of the Year after leading the team to a second straight state title and a 22-4 record. Sugar-Salem finished the season on a 19-game win streak, including two wins over No. 1 seed and previously unbeaten Fruitland in the state tournament.
