JAW-DROPPING MOMENT — A truck was traveling down a road in a Chicago suburb when it suddenly exploded, and the heart-stopping moment was caught on a home security camera.

The incident happened May 24, 2025, in Addison, a village in DuPage County, Illinois, at about 8:40 a.m. Footage shows a Penske truck driving down the road when out of nowhere it blows up. A loud blast is heard on the nearby security camera and pieces of the truck are seen flying through the air before landing in a scattered mess on the ground.

Miraculously, the blast wasn’t deadly, and the driver reportedly walked away with only minor injuries. The explosion did however damage four homes and left one uninhabitable. One of the walls of the box truck reportedly hit the front-facing wall of one of the homes and pushed it two to four feet inward.

Investigators said they believe a propane tank being carried in the truck was leaking before it exploded. Police said the explosion was “accidental.”

Penske stated the vehicle was rented out to a customer who was moving household items. It was reported that debris spilled out for one to two blocks. Pictures of the aftermath show items such as a grill, chairs and tables lying in the street.

“Penske will cooperate fully with any further investigation by law enforcement. Under Penske’s rental agreement, explosive, flammable or otherwise hazardous materials should not be transported in a consumer rental moving truck,” a spokesperson said.
