American Falls woman brings Nashville band to summer concerts
Published at | Updated atAMERICAN FALLS — A spontaneous stroll down a side street off Broadway in Nashville by Tammy Ramsey last fall has evolved into a musical treat for American Falls and Pocatello’s free weekly summer concerts.
Ramsey, community organizer and president of American Falls’ Music in the Park, was on vacation in Tennessee last November when what she describes as a “hauntingly beautiful voice” singing the George Strait classic “Amarillo by Morning” stopped her in her tracks.
“I walked in because the voice gave me goosebumps. The hair on my arms stood up. I just stood there listening,” Ramsey said.
Moments later, the singer turned to her mid-performance and said, “Hey, how’s it going? Where are y’all from?”
Ramsey soon learned the singer was David Young, frontman of the Nashville-based band The Interstate Kings.
When Ramsey told the singer she was from Idaho and organized community concerts, a plan began to form.
Young mentioned they were planning a road trip to Seattle, and Ramsey seized the moment. “I said, ‘Well, I do Music in the Park. Let’s talk.’ We exchanged info — and here we go,” Ramsey said.
Now, David Young and The Interstate Kings are headed to eastern Idaho with two upcoming shows: Wednesday, July 16 at Pocatello’s “Revive at 5,” followed by Thursday, July 17 at “American Falls’ Music in the Park.”

“These guys are top-notch talent. It’s synchronicity when things like this just come together,” said Ramsey.

Started by Ramsey, Music in the Park is held every Thursday from 6:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and features rotating food vendors, family-friendly fun, and a fresh band each week. Pocatello’s Revive at 5 is held Wednesday throughout the summertime at Lookout Point from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The Interstate Kings are a special highlight to both towns’ free community concerts thanks to Ramsey’s serendipitous Nashville connection and collaboration with Stephanie Palagi, president of Historic Downtown Pocatello.
“Stephanie Palagi and I try to help each other promote our towns and put on the best events that we can,” said Ramsey
The Interstate Kings are known for their versatility. Their catalog includes over 350 songs spanning genres from classic rock to country and original southern rock tunes. The band says they play a great mix of “Good ‘ole American music.”
Their latest single, “Cat Trap,” was released on July 11, and two more songs are on the way to complete their debut album.

“They’re so good. They can play for seven or eight hours straight. They’ll even take crowd requests,” said Ramsey.
