REXBURG — A local real estate company is putting on a scavenger hunt on August 2 and you could win at least $5,000.

Real Estate Two70 is hosting the event called “The Rexburg Quest” and it is inspired by the reality show “The Amazing Race.” Participants of all ages are welcome to compete in the scavenger hunt, which will take place across Rexburg. The $5,000 winnings are an open pot, so organizers are hoping to increase the winnings before the day of the event.

“It’s a scavenger hunt across Rexburg, but we did a twist to make it more like ‘The Amazing Race,’ so there’s actually going to be detours available, actual obstacles and actual ciphers,” said Sydney McCleve, a real estate agent for Real Estate Two70. “They’ll have to crack the code, and it’s currently sitting at 10 clues. We had a few run-throughs that made it in three and a half to four hours.”

McCleve got the idea for the hunt when she and her husband were managers of a university student housing complex years ago.

“We threw a scavenger hunt for the students three years in a row. We just used whatever we had in our budget, it was like $200 for a grand prize, but it was so fun to throw those opportunities. I’ve just always wanted to do it for the families of the community and not just the students,” said McCleve.

After the scavenger hunt, there will be a party with bounce houses, food vendors and more.

The scavenger hunt will start at Porter Park at 11 a.m. with the after-party being held at the same place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Prices to enter the event differ by age. Adults are $25 per person, teenagers are $15 per person and children under 12 are free. You can register for the event at the Rexburg Quest website, here.

Organizers are still accepting sponsors or vendors for the after party. If interested, you can sign up on the Rexburg Quest website linked above.

In addition, McCleve mentioned a need for small business vendors to participate in the after-party and volunteers to help. Volunteers will help set up and take down the event, along with other assignments. If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up here.
