SWALLOWED UP — Wild footage shows the moment two drivers stopped at a red light in Nebraska suddenly ended up in a sinkhole last week.

The shocking incident happened Feb. 24, 2026, in Omaha. Video taken from a nearby parking garage’s camera shows two vehicles stopped at an intersection. Out of nowhere, the road collapses and the two vehicles are quickly dropped into the sinkhole, landing at a slanted angle.

The driver of the truck opens his door but realizes he can’t get out. He ends up going through his passenger side door then climbing onto the front of his truck before jumping down onto the road.

He told KETV it felt like someone rear-ended him, but when he looked behind him, all he saw was the sky.

The man in the SUV was able to get out of his drivers side door but struggled to get out of the sinkhole. The driver of the truck and other bystanders are seen rushing to the man who was in the SUV as they help lift him out of the hole and to safety.

Other people jumped into action and can be seen on the video directing traffic and telling people to back away from the area.

“Thank you so much to those who pitched in! You took the initiative to assist fellow Omahans,” the Omaha Police Department wrote on Facebook. “We appreciate you being good neighbors and taking immediate steps to assist in the situation.”

Austin Rowser, city engineer with Omaha Public Works, said the void under the sinkhole was 30 feet by 50 feet wide and 10 feet to 15 feet deep.

The public works department is conducting a full investigation into what caused the sinkhole.
