Around the Horn: Poky bests Rigby; Madison tops Highland, North Fremont over West Jefferson in conference games

EASTERN IDAHO — The conference season continues to arrive for teams across eastern Idaho.
Highland (4-7, 0-0) played its first conference game of the season, falling at Madison (4-8, 1-2). North Fremont (4-2, 2-1) recorded its second in-conference victory, over West Jefferson (0-5, 0-3), but continues to chase Salmon (12-0, 4-0). And Thunder Ridge (4-4-1, 0-1) fell at home against Canyon Ridge (4-2, 1-0), while 6A High Country Conference-leading Rigby (4-6, 2-0) lost at Pocatello (5-6, 0-0).
Here is some of the baseball action you may have missed Tuesday.
Rigby @ Pocatello
Junior Carson Allen earned the win for Pocatello, tossing 6 innings and allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five and walking two in an 8-3 victory. His support came from up and down the lineup, with three Thunder hitters picking up two hits and five driving in runs.
Senior Huston Himmerich went 2-for-3 and scored two runs out of the seven hole.
In a losing effort, seniors Bentley Brower and Jayden Belnap led the Trojans once again, recording five of Rigby’s six hits between them. Brower went 3-for-4, scoring all three Trojan runs.

Highland @ Madison
The Bobcats bounced back from back-to-back losses against Rigby by beating the Rams 9-6 at Madison High School.
Freshman Jette Walker triggered the Madison offense from the lead-off spot, going 2-for-5 with one run scored and two RBIs. Sophomore Sam Berry and junior Robert Moralas each homered in the win.
Highland sophomore Ty Dixon also homered, as part of a two-run, two-RBI day.
North Fremont @ West Jefferson
The Huskies made it back-to-back wins against conference opponents, beating the Panthers 9-2.
Senior Cameron Shuldberg went 2-for-3 with four runs scored, one RBI and three stolen bases for North Fremont.
Sophomore Kole Marsden got the win on the mound, allowing one hit and one unearned run in his 5 innings of work. He struck out eight and walked just one.
Colt Smith with one of West Jefferson’s two hits and tallied its only RBI in the loss.
