POCATELLO — The Pocatello Police Department launched an investigation after allegations of animal abuse involving a dog were shared in a June 13, 2026, post on the Facebook group “Life in Pocatello.”
The post sparked a firestorm of outrage, drawing nearly 400 shares and prompting numerous calls to local authorities.
The post, which included still photos of the dog and the alleged abuser walking with small children, read:
“i was in pocatello today and was driving home from ross park, and my family and i all saw this man stomp on his dog and punch it multiple times in the head and ribs. he had his 2 small (under the age of 5) children with him. the older child was unphased as if this was normal for him. we called 911 to let them know what we had witnessed and they checked in an hour and a half later. if anybody knows this man, or his family, please help any woman he has in his life to GET AWAY from him, and his dog and children should not be allowed with him. this was insane to see and heartbreaking that no immediate action was taken. thank you for reading. (edit) i was just informed the apartment complex in the pictures is called bengal creek.”
The Pocatello Police Department responded, saying:
“We would first like to thank members of the community for bringing this matter to our attention and for their assistance throughout the investigation. Information provided by the public helped officers identify the pet owner and make contact regarding the reported concerns.
As part of the investigation, the dog has been examined and, at this time, appears to be healthy and does not appear to have any visible injuries. While we are encouraged by the dog’s condition, the Pocatello Police Department continues to investigate the allegations and gather information to determine the facts surrounding the incident.
Because this remains an active investigation, no additional details are being released at this time.
The Pocatello Police Department appreciates the public’s concern and cooperation.”
