Traffic alert: Overnight traffic shifts begin on Fort Hall’s I-15 interchange

POCATELLO — Drivers traveling between Pocatello and Blackfoot over the next several nights will have changing traffic patterns as a major Interstate 15 construction project shifts traffic through the Fort Hall area.
Beginning Thursday night, the Idaho Transportation Department will implement overnight crossover traffic patterns near the Fort Hall Interchange to allow crews to safely remove lead-based paint from the abandoned railroad bridge spanning I-15.
From 7 p.m. to 6 a.m., traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction between south of the Fort Hall Interchange and north of the abandoned railroad bridge. Speed limits through the work zone will be reduced to 55 mph.
Traffic will shift as follows:
- Thursday and Friday nights: Northbound and southbound traffic will use the southbound lanes.
- Saturday night: Northbound and southbound traffic will use the northbound lanes.
- Sunday night: No crossover traffic is planned.
- Monday and Tuesday nights (June 29-30): Northbound and southbound traffic will use the northbound lanes.
The paint must be removed before the abandoned railroad bridge can be demolished, which is scheduled for mid-July. Removing the bridge will provide enough room for crews to widen I-15 to three lanes in each direction as part of the ongoing Northgate to Blackfoot reconstruction project.
The widening project between Pocatello and Fort Hall is expected to be completed in 2027.
ITD urges motorists to slow down, watch for changing traffic patterns, and follow all work zone signs while traveling through the area.
