GALLERY: Crews work to contain Big Rock Fire, over 1,200 acres burned

HEISE — After a wildfire began on Friday, it has grown to over 1,200 acres near Heise as fire crews work to contain the aggressive blaze.
Central Fire Chief Nic White told EastIdahoNew.com the cause of the blaze may have been lightning, although officially the cause is still unknown, as it is early in the investigation.

EastIdahoNews.com spent the majority of Saturday afternoon speaking with officials and community members about the Big Rock fire.
While there, residents commented on the fire’s progression and pointed out when flames began to erupt and close in on a nearby cabin.
At one point, the fire was audible enough to be heard nearly a mile away.
As of 4:30 p.m., all homes and campgrounds north of Heise, extending north to Lyons Creek Road/10000 South and east to 7000 East, just west of Luthy Meadows, are now under an evacuation order.
Those living north of the Snake River between Heise Hot Springs and east to the Y at Kelly Canyon should have already evacuated the area. Additionally, those staying on Forest Service Road extending north up to East 12000 should also be gone.
If there is fire threatening the area near you, leave immediately and do not delay or attempt to remain there.
