Missing deputy attorney general found alive in Wyoming mountains after missing for nearly a week

PINEDALE, Wyoming — A Missouri family is blissfully relieved after their missing relative was found alive in the Wyoming mountains, nearly a week after he went missing on a solo hiking trip.
Shaun Mackelprang, 55 of Missouri, was found alive on Wednesday in the Wind River Range after he did not return from a hike that began on the Green River Lakes Trailhead on Aug. 20. His planned destination was Gannett Peak, 45 miles from where he began.
According to the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office, Mackelprang was located in the vicinity of Scott Lake following an extensive search effort.
Search and rescue personnel say they found Mackelprang, who is a deputy attorney general, and prepared him for helicopter extraction from the backcountry at approximately 9:45 a.m.
According to the Cowboy State Daily, who spoke with Mackelprang’s family, he was dehydrated and disoriented when found.
“This successful outcome is the result of the tremendous effort and coordination of Tip Top Search and Rescue volunteers, Sublette County Sheriff’s Office personnel, and the SCSO Drone Team, along with the support of everyone who provided information or assistance throughout the search,” says the post. “We also sincerely thank the public and backcountry users who shared information, reviewed photographs and GPS data, shared the missing-person information, and helped get the word out.”
