Open house begins this week for Cody Wyoming LDS Temple

CODY, Wyoming — The public will soon have a chance to step inside Wyoming’s newest temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Cody Wyoming Temple opened its doors to media members and invited guests on Monday ahead of a public open house that begins Thursday. Tours will continue through Saturday, Sept. 12, excluding Sundays.
Located near the eastern entrance to Yellowstone National Park, the temple incorporates elements inspired by Wyoming’s landscape and heritage. The state flower, the Indian paintbrush, appears throughout the building, including in art glass windows and decorative painting.
The Cody temple will become the third operating temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wyoming, joining temples in Casper and Star Valley. Plans for the Cody temple were first announced in October 2021.
Elder Clark G. Gilbert of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles will dedicate the temple on Sunday, Oct. 25. The dedication will be broadcast throughout the temple district at 10 a.m., with a rebroadcast scheduled for 2 p.m.
Temples are different from the Church’s regular meetinghouses, where members and visitors gather for Sunday worship. Latter-day Saints consider temples to be houses of the Lord, where members participate in sacred ordinances, make covenants with God and take part in ceremonies intended to unite families for eternity.
Before a new temple is dedicated, the Church traditionally holds an open house allowing people of all faiths to tour the building. After the Cody temple is dedicated in October, it will be reserved for worship by Church members who hold a current temple recommend.
