Pocatello man killed in fatal airplane crash mourned by community

BLACKFOOT — A 27-year-old Pocatello man is being mourned by family and friends after he was killed in a plane crash at the Blackfoot City Airport late on Saturday night.
Bingham County Coroner Jimmy Roberts has identified the man as Caden Max West. Roberts says he was piloting the aircraft when it crashed. There were two other passengers in the aircraft who were injured and hospitalized.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation and Safety Board.

The man’s father, Jason West, posted on social media that “Caden loved to fly. He was working toward the airlines — that was the plan, that was the dream, and he was chasing it hard.”
The post describes Caden as curious about everything and good at most of it. He was an Eagle Scout, a former missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, had been on a film crew on the Alaska Iditarod, and he had a finance degree from Brigham Young University-Idaho.
“Caden and his brothers talked every single day. They were best friends. They wanted to be him, and he loved them right back. He was a delight to his mother. He and I had our own language — flying, business, motorcycles, investing — and I will miss those conversations for the rest of my life,” Jason wrote.
Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
