Rexburg’s West Main Street closed after police find unexploded ordnance near downtown

REXBURG — Police in Rexburg are asking the public to avoid and evacuate an area of West Main Street as they work to neutralize a suspected explosive device.
Businesses along West Main Street, from Center Street to 1st East, are being evacuated, according to a Wednesday afternoon Facebook post by the Rexburg Police Department. It says the suspicious item was found inside a vehicle and is believed to be an unexploded ordnance.
Police say they don’t believe the item was “placed or intended as a threat to the public,” but first responders are working to address it.
