REXBURG – With fair season kicking off this week, we tried the best desserts, entrees and drinks at the Madison County Fair to decide once and for all which one is the most worth your money and time.
EastIdahoNews.com reporters Kaitlyn Hart and Daniel Ramirez, and video production manager Jordan Wood, graciously volunteered to spend a tough day at work on Wednesday, judging the 2026 Madison County Fair food competition.
Each item was given a 1-5 rating, based on its taste, visual appearance and creativity.
Here are our favorites (and a few honorable mentions).
Make sure to visit the Madison County Fair at 460 West 2nd North in Rexburg, from Wednesday, Aug. 12, through Saturday, Aug. 15. The fair runs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Vendor booths open at 11 a.m.
Admission is free this year.
Best drink
Disneyland Dole Whip Lemonade – Family Tree Lemonade Company

This was a landslide winner for best drink with our judges. The crisp, cool drink reminded them of a day in the park and wasn’t too sweet or too sour.
Bonus points for the pineapple on top and the massive jug of lemonade!
Best entree
Lime Chicken Arepa – Bocados

This photo TRULY does not do this dish justice. Inside the warm, pita-pocket-like bread is a huge scoop of delicious shredded chicken and cheese, all topped with a creamy lime dressing.
All three of our judges ate the entire thing, which was not very smart, since they still had a lot to try, but it was just too delicious to stop!
Best dessert
Churro Cheesecake – Tres Hermanos

This was a perfect fair food dessert. Pieces of sweet churro cheesecake topped with whipped cream, strawberries, and sprinkles.
It was absolutely delicious, and 100% worth the sugar intake.
Honorable mentions
Everything we tried was so tasty, and it was extremely difficult to pick our favorites.
So, here are some other items we would highly suggest trying when you visit the Madison County Fair this year!
The Jarrito Loco Mexican Soda – Tres Hermanos

A grapefruit Jarrito soda with a huge piece of watermelon, a drizzle of chamoy and a Tajin rim. This one scored big on creativity and visual appearance! It was cool, crisp and perfect if you’re looking for a tangy, spicy treat.
Tacos – Tres Hermanos

A yearly favorite of many, the tacos, fajitas and birria at Tres Hermanos are always a crowd pleaser.
Dubai-style Cheesecake Bite Strawberry Falls – Chocolate Plunge

Another favorite of the judges, and a trendy submission this year, the chocolate is melty, the fruit is fresh, and the cheesecake bites brought another hint of soft sweetness to an already delicious dessert.
