Hot, crispy and piled high: Winder’s Original Funnel Cakes are a fair favorite
Published atBLACKFOOT — It’s a feeding frenzy at the fair and there’s nothing quite like a hot, fresh funnel cake!
Winder’s Original Funnel Cakes is a fixture at the Eastern Idaho State Fair and the family has been serving them up for 41 years.
Family members work the booth and make every funnel cake the old-fashioned way, with homemade batter poured directly through a funnel and fried until golden.

The most popular creation is strawberries and cream, piled high with Oregon strawberries, powdered sugar, cinnamon and a whipped topping mixed in-house. There is also peach, triple berry, caramel and chocolate drizzle.
And new this year? Oreo and cookie butter crunch.

The Winders say visitors from Pennsylvania, where the funnel cake first became popular in the United States, often tell them they taste just like the funnel cakes they remember from back home.
“We give people some nostalgia,” Drew Winder says.
