Police: Woman arrested after illegally taking son out of state, fleeing from officers in high-speed chase

EVANSTON, Wyo. (Courtroom Insider) — A Michigan mother has been arrested after police say she illegally took her son out of state, then led Wyoming law enforcement officers on a high-speed chase.
Marisa Calliea, 30, is now facing multiple charges, including: fleeing or attempting to elude police, child endangerment, interference with a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance, reckless driving, and driving while her license was canceled, suspended or revoked, according to court documents obtained by Cowboy State Daily. All six charges are misdemeanors.
The outlet reports Calliea’s 6-year-old child was reported missing on Sept. 3, after he was not returned to his father in Michigan as planned. Missing-child flyers were circulated, and on Labor Day, an anonymous caller from Evanston, Wyoming, reported seeing the child and a woman in her 30s.
Daily Mail reports an officer was dispatched to a Walmart where they located the missing vehicle and waited for Calliea and the child to exit the store. When they did, the officer approached, and Calliea reportedly gave fake names for herself and her son.
When the officer went to look up the names on a computer, Calliea got in her vehicle and started it, Daily Mail reports. The officer ordered Calliea to exit the vehicle, and said she briefly got out before jumping back in and driving away.
The officer reports that they pursued Calliea’s vehicle as it reached speeds of up to 40 mph in the parking lot. When Calliea made it to the street, the report says she increased the vehicle’s speed and ran a red light, then drove the wrong way down a one-way road and hit intersections at speeds high enough to make her SUV go airborne — all with the child in the vehicle.
Detroit Fox affiliate WJBK reports that Calliea eventually stopped the vehicle, at which point law enforcement pulled her from the SUV and placed her under arrest.
According to New Media Detroit, after Calliea’s arrest, the child was safely returned to his father, who thanked the public for their assistance in locating the boy. In a Facebook post, the father credited the safe return of his child to the anonymous tipster and the Wyoming police officer who located Calliea.
WJBK reports Calliea is being held in the Uinta County Detention Center on a $30,000 bond.
