Charges dismissed for man accused of threatening to release sex tape of woman

IDAHO FALLS — A felony case was recently dismissed after a man was accused of threatening to release a sex tape to prevent a local woman from moving out of state.
Bryce Cook, 41, was originally charged with one count of felony video voyeurism.
According to court filings, the case was dismissed without prejudice on Oct. 15, meaning that prosecutors could refile for the same allegations and charges in the future if more evidence comes to light.
Court filings do not indicate exactly why the case was dismissed. EastIdahoNews.com has reached out to Bonneville County Prosecutor Randy Neal for clarification, and we will update if we hear back.
Court documents alleged that a woman contacted the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 31 to make a report of sextortion.
The woman claimed that she had consensually recorded sex with Cook, but that he had threatened to release the video when she told him she planned to move to Arizona with her new romantic partner.
EastIdahoNews.com spoke with Cook, who claims the case was dismissed for lack of evidence.
“I just have goals of having a future, and to move forward with my life, and I don’t blame anybody for anything,” says Cook. “I’m just grateful for this opportunity to move forward and try to keep progressing in my life and doing better so I can provide for my family and community, and make a positive impact myself.”
