JACKSON, Wyoming — A quick-thinking Jackson Police officer helped a family safely evacuate their home Thursday morning after spotting smoke coming from a house on Flat Creek Drive.

Officer Liam Fowler alerted Teton County Sheriff’s Office dispatch and immediately evacuated everyone inside the home, according to a news release.

Jackson police officers arrived at about 9:10 a.m. and found a fire burning on an exterior deck that had spread into the attic. Jackson Hole Fire/EMS crews arrived five minutes later and began fighting the fire from outside before moving inside the home.

Firefighters used a ladder truck to ventilate the roof, helping slow the fire’s spread through the attic. No injuries were reported.

“Fire crews did an excellent job of stopping the fire from spreading any further and saving as much property as possible,” Jackson Hole Fire/EMS Deputy Chief Brian Coe said.

A total of 25 Jackson Hole Fire/EMS personnel responded, including command staff and a medical director. The response included three fire engines, an aerial ladder truck, two ambulances and a drone. Additional personnel remained available to handle other calls throughout Teton County.

Teton County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers also supported the response by coordinating information and communications throughout the incident.

“I’m proud of the coordinated response from Teton County Sheriff’s Office dispatchers, Jackson Police officers, and firefighters,” said Battalion Chief Chris Stiehl, the incident commander. “They safely and efficiently mitigated the fire, keeping firefighter and public safety as the top priority.”
