IDAHO FALLS — An Idaho Falls man was arrested Saturday morning after he allegedly fought with Bonneville County Sheriff’s deputies in a basement.

Around 5 a.m., deputies responded to a home in the 1700 block of Fife Street after receiving information that a wanted man was hiding in the basement. Adrian Martinez, 27, had active misdemeanor warrants related to driving while suspended and possession of drug paraphernalia, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

The people who lived in the home directed deputies to the basement. Deputies said that’s where they found Martinez hiding under blankets near a bed with three young children in the room.

Martinez verbally threatened the deputies “using obscenities, saying he would kill all of them,” according to the news release. Deputies handcuffed him after a brief struggle, and he kept threatening to kill them as they put him in a patrol car.

On the way to the jail, Martinez allegedly continued his threats and said he was going to break out of the vehicle. He managed to unbuckle his seat belt and caused damage to the inside of the car while trying to break the window, deputies said.

When he arrived, he was booked on the outstanding misdemeanor warrants, along with new felony charges of assault on certain personnel and attempted escape. He also was charged with resisting and arrest and malicious injury to property, both misdemeanors.

Further information was unavailable in court records on Saturday.
