The Riverbend Awareness Project’s October episodes focus on fire prevention. Local Bonneville County Fire District 1 Chief Jon Molbert, and Fire Marshal Keith Banda go in depth about fire prevention and preparation for the home.

The fire prevention series starts with the basics–smoke alarm maintenance–and goes from there to common hazards in the home. Some hazards are obvious, like space heaters, and others less so, like charging e-bike batteries or dust buildup in bathroom exhaust fans. .

Molbert and Banda share experiences they’ve had with past home and business fire incidents that demonstrate how knowledge and preparation can help prevent fire emergencies. They also emphasize the importance of having a family emergency escape plan. An escape plan should include different exit options and a specific location where everyone meets up. Molbert then encourages families to practice, so all family members can act confidently if an actual emergency happens.
