IDAHO FALLS — After Sweeto Burrito closed its doors in 2023, the building was left vacant on a popular street in Idaho Falls for several years.

But that vacancy looks to be coming to an end, as a new business will be opening its doors there soon.

Beans & Brews Coffee House will be located at 2090 East 17th Street. Kurt Lund, who lives in Utah, is the franchise owner, and Steve Jones, who lives in Chubbuck, is a part owner. The coffee house is known for its unique approach to roasting coffee beans.

“The beans are roasted at a high altitude, and it helps with the flavor,” Jones told EastIdahoNews.com. “There are breakfast sandwiches and regular sandwiches. If you don’t like coffee, there are also non-coffee drinks as well. There are kids’ drinks and smoothies.”

Jones said they hope to open the business before Halloween.

Renovations are underway inside the building, and new equipment is on the way. They’ve already painted the building outside. There’s a sign near the street that says “Coming soon: Beans & Brews Coffee House.”

On the menu, there are drinks like a hot honey latte, sweet cream latte, dulce latte, turkey, havarti, and pesto panini, bacon, egg, and havarti croissant and more. Click here to view the menu items.

There’s a location that opened earlier this year in Bellevue. Jones said it has been popular and he’s looking forward to bringing it to Idaho Falls.

“There are so many people who visit the one in Sun Valley because it’s more of a vacation destination. A lot of people love it. They love the coffee. When they come to visit, vacationers say, ‘I’m glad to see you guys have one here.’ They frequent it in Utah,” he said.

According to its website, “Beans & Brews Coffee House has been around since 1993, when the Laramie family opened shop next to Salt Lake City’s beloved hangout, Liberty Park.” There are multiple locations now in states like Utah, Texas, Nevada, Idaho, Arizona, and Colorado and they continue to grow.

“We don’t just brew coffee. We brew community,” its website said.

“It’s actually a good place to hang out. There’s free wifi,” Jones said. “It will be a good opportunity for some local people (to find) a job.”

Background on previous business at the 17th Street location

Sweeto Burrito closed its business in December 2023 after five years in operation. In 2024, EastIdahoNews.com reported that The Chicken Shanty, an Oregon-based restaurant chain offering sandwiches, wraps, strips, wings, desserts, and drinks, was planning to move into that location.

But months later, TOK Commercial Real Estate in Idaho Falls had a sign in front of the building listing it for sale again and seeking a new tenant.
