The following is a news release from the city of Idaho Falls:
IDAHO FALLS — Community members are invited to learn about and give feedback on proposed safety improvements to the intersection of 15th East and 49th South.
The City of Idaho Falls, Bonneville County and the Local Highway Technical Assistance Council (LHTAC) will discuss the proposed project at an open house on Nov. 5 at the Bonneville County Fairgrounds Carriage House — 1542 E 73rd S, Idaho Falls. Community members are welcome to drop in at any time between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m. to learn about the project.
Proposed improvements to the intersection include adding traffic signals, adding left turn lanes, installing streetlights and adding pedestrian ramps and crosswalks.
The project is being funded by a federal grant to address crashes there. Between 2018 and 2022, there were 26 crashes at this intersection.
Because the intersection is on an important route for southern Idaho Falls and further development will bring more traffic to the area, improvements will help keep the intersection safe and efficient.
In addition to learning about the improvements, attendees at the Nov. 5 open house will have the opportunity to comment on proposed designs. Those who are unable to attend may still get information by emailing rhuntsman@idahofalls.gov and submit comments at https://arcg.is/LGDvC. Comments will be accepted through Nov. 20.
Design plans for improvements to the intersection are expected to be finalized in early 2027. Construction on the intersection is expected to begin in late 2027 or early 2028.
