Human Rights Group: ISIS Abducted 90 Christians in Syria
Published at(ISTANBUL) — Syrian activists say ISIS has abducted more than 90 Assyrian Christians from villages in northeast Syria.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that dozens of people — including children — were rounded up in raids by the extremist group. Some escaped and fled to an area controlled by Syria’s Kurdish forces.
Reports of the abductions follow a battle between a Syrian Christian militia and the Islamic State.
The militia reportedly forced the Islamists from several villages. However, the extremists fought back, taking the Assyrian Christians hostage as they regained ground.
