Could Arkansas State Senate Make Cotton 2016 a Possibility?
Published at(LITTLE ROCK, Ark.) — The Arkansas State Senate will consider a bill that would allow a candidate to run for multiple federal offices simultaneously, after the state Senate Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs recommended that the bill pass.
The bill was sponsored by Arkansas state Senator Bart Hester. If adopted, it would allow an individual to “be a candidate for President or Vice President of the United States and United States Senate or United States House of Representatives in the same primary and general election.”
The bill was proposed days after Arkansas freshman Sen. Tom Cotton led 47 Republican senators in writing a letter to the Iranian government that some felt undermined President Obama’s attempts to negotiate a multilateral nuclear deal with Iran.
It was unclear whether the bill was proposed with Cotton in mind, though the legislation would aid him in a hypothetical 2016 attempt at the presidency.
