Mumbai Attack Suspect Released by Pakistan
Published at(ISLAMABAD) — The man believed to be the mastermind behind the 2008 terror attacks in Mumbai, India has been released on bail from a Pakistani jail.
Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi was granted bail in December, but had been kept in detention since then until Friday.
He is one of seven men facing trial for the attacks, which killed 166 people.
State Department Spokesman Jeff Rathke said on Friday the U.S. is gravely concerned.
“Pakistan has pledged its cooperation in bringing the perpetrators, financiers, and sponsors of the Mumbai terrorist attacks to justice, and we urge Pakistan to follow through on that commitment to insure justice for the 166 innocent people, including six Americans, who lost their lives,” he said.
Rathke added that the officials are going to “look” at the latest development and decide what consequences may be drawn from it.
