Volunteers Check Watershed By Counting Beavers
Published at(POCATELLO) – Area volunteers are gaging the health of the region’s watersheds by counting beaver colonies. Local News 8 reports that several people gathered near Pocatello Saturday to look for beavers and examine their habitats. Organizer Mike Settell says there is a strong link between the number of beavers in the region and the overall well-being of the watershed. He says it’s been over two decades since officials have done a beaver count, and that it’s hard to determine what’s happened to their numbers since then.
