Idaho Falls man accused of pushing woman out of moving car

IDAHO FALLS — A 26-year-old man is behind bars after police say he pushed his girlfriend out of a moving vehicle on Monday, Nov. 30.

Zachary Jacobson is charged with aggravated battery.

Police say officers responded to Grand Teton Mall around noon after a witness reported seeing a woman lying unconscious in the middle of the parking lot.

Police spokeswoman Joelyn Hansen said the woman opened the door while the vehicle was in motion.

The woman allegedly told police she and Jacobson had an argument in the vehicle. After she opened the door, she was pushed out of the vehicle, police say.

The witness tried to assist the woman. She refused help and went into the mall. Hansen said officers and paramedics found her in the mall, where she told them she had been pushed.

The woman, however, says the police’s version of events is incorrect. She reached out to EastIdahoNews.com and gave us this statement:

“I got out of the car, slipped and hit my head, I felt embarrassed and just laid there for a second hoping no one saw it. I was not knocked out. (Jacobson) did absolutely nothing!”

Hansen confirmed the police report does include a statement that the victim was pushed.

“We don’t have a clear story on what happened,” Hansen said. “She claims he pushed her from the car, and based on her statements and the information we had, (officers) had enough information to arrest him for aggravated battery.”

Jacobson was located in the 1000 block of Kearney and arrested. He was booked into the Bonneville County Jail.
