The following is a news release from the American Red Cross.

IDAHO FALLS — The American Red Cross of Greater Idaho has closed the nominations period for the 2016 East Idaho Real Heroes Awards. The Red Cross second annual East Idaho Real Heroes event will take place on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Idaho Falls. The event celebrates individuals whose extraordinary actions designate them as heroes—everyday people who have put themselves in harm’s way or have risked their lives to save another.

“We are excited with the many nominations we have received this year and cannot wait to share their stories with the people of East Idaho,” said Liza Leonard, Idaho Red Cross board member and Chair of the East Idaho Real Heroes event committee. “While we wait for the list of winners from our selection committee, we are hard at work preparing for our award ceremony in February and are grateful to the many sponsors and supporters that have come on board to help us with this year’s event.”

The 11 winners will be announced on February 25 at the Red Cross’s signature event. The following categories will each have a winner:

Fire Safety Hero–Presented to a professional or volunteer firefighter or an ordinary citizen involved in a fire-related incident whose lifesaving action went above and beyond the call of duty.

The Red Cross’s inaugural East Idaho Real Heroes event in 2015 was made possible because of the generous support of local organizations. We wish to acknowledge and thank them for their support here: Ball Ventures, Bingham Memorial Hospital, Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, Idaho National Library, Melaleuca, Teton Toyota/Volkswagen Dealership; Bank of Idaho, Bank of Commerce, Century Link, Key Bank, Mountain View Hospital, ServePro, and The Watkins Company. Many of the same companies have offered their support again this year.
