Mother, 4 young kids killed in crash after alleged drunk driver slams into them
Published at | Updated atSALEM, Oregon — An Oregon mother, her three kids and her niece were killed in a head-on crash Sunday evening.
Police say Lissette Medrano-Perez was driving her two boys, ages 8 and 6, her 4-year-old daughter and her 2-year-old niece, Angelina, southbound on 99E when a suspected drunk driver crossed the center line and crashed into them, head-on.
All five were pronounced dead at the scene.
“I’m kind of in shock, I still cant believe it. I can’t stop thinking about it. I just feel for my friend,” family friend Mercedes Gutierrez told KOMO News.
Lissette was 25 years-old, her sons were 6 and 8 and her daughter was 4 years old.
Flowers and balloons now sit along 99E as a memorial for a family left with a gaping hole.
“I just feel heartbroken for her, it’s devastating.” Gutierrez said.
Favian R. Garcia, 27, from Gervais, was booked in the Marion County Jail Monday on five counts of first-degree manslaughter, felony while driving under the influence of intoxicants, reckless driving, misdemeanor driving while suspended, and outstanding unrelated warrants.
