Elton Brand Claimed by Mavericks
Published at(NEW YORK) — Forward Elton Brand was claimed off amnesty waivers Friday by the Dallas Mavericks.
ESPN.com reports sources close to the deal say the Mavs winning bid was $2.1 million.
The 33-year-old forward was released by the Philadelphia 76ers Wednesday under the amnesty clause in the NBA’s new labor agreement. The clause allows a team to release one player without having that player’s contract count against the salary cap or luxury tax. The Sixers will pay the remaining $16 million of Brands $18.1 million contract.
Brand played the last four seasons in Philadelphia. He averaged 11 points, 7.1 rebounds and 1.6 blocks per game last season.
