J.R. Martinez Running the NYC Marathon for Charity
Published at(NEW YORK) — J.R. Martinez, who won Dancing with the Stars last year, is tackling a new challenge: the New York City Marathon.
The Iraq war veteran is participating in the event — which will be held as scheduled this Sunday despite the damage caused by superstorm Sandy in the area — to raise money for charity. He will start the race last, and for every person he passes, Timex will donate a dollar to New York Road Runner’s youth program.
Martinez tells ABC News Radio that Timex reached out to him about running the marathon.
He continues, “I’d never done that before. It’s never been on my bucket list, you know? I said, you know, why not? And what really kind of sold it for me was the opportunity to raise a lot of money for charity.”
