IDAHO FALLS — A 35-year-old woman was arrested Monday night after crashing her vehicle and later becoming combative with hospital staff and law enforcement, according to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 10 p.m. to a single-vehicle crash on East 1st Street near Amy Lane. Sheriff deputies, along with Idaho Falls Fire and Idaho Falls Police, arrived to find a red Honda overturned in a ditch. The vehicle had reportedly veered off the road.
The driver, identified as Kristin C. Jones, was helped out of the car and “immediately” showed signs of intoxication, according to a sheriff’s office news release. Witnesses had previously reported Jones was driving erratically and running red lights prior to the crash.
Deputies say Jones was stumbling and speaking incoherently. She was taken by ambulance to the hospital for evaluation, accompanied by a deputy.
At the hospital, deputies say Jones became belligerent, tried to flee, and had to be restrained. During the incident, she allegedly assaulted a deputy, kicked hospital staff, and spit on a security officer.
Deputies obtained a warrant to collect a blood sample to determine her blood alcohol content. After receiving medical clearance, Jones was taken to the Bonneville County Jail on a felony charge of battery on a health care worker and misdemeanor charges of second-offense DUI, resisting arrest, and disturbing the peace.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and Jones was the only person in the car.
