Man arrested after lengthy standoff with police

POCATELLO — A man was arrested after a lengthy standoff with Pocatello Police on Thursday.
The incident began at about 6:20 a.m., when the Pocatello Police Department was notified of a domestic disturbance at 1730 West Quinn Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers learned that a male suspect, 40-year-old Logan Smith, had barricaded himself inside a residence with a female and three children.
As the investigation progressed, the Pocatello Police Immediate Response Team and crisis negotiators were deployed. While speaking with police dispatch, the female reported that the suspect was armed with both a gun and a machete. With dispatch’s assistance, officers safely evacuated the woman and three children from the residence without incident.
Officers then obtained a search warrant for the residence. Following lengthy negotiations, the suspect peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody.
Smith was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault.
No injuries were sustained during the incident. The area has been cleared and reopened to the public.

POCATELLO — A large contingent of police is negotiating with a barricaded suspect in a mobile home park in Pocatello.
According to a news release from the department, Pocatello Police officers are currently in the area of 1730 West Quinn in response to a domestic disturbance. Officers have surrounded a mobile home and are attempting to contact the occupants.
Witnesses tell EastIdahoNews.com officers have been on scene since around 7 a.m.
