MALAD CITY — The Malad Dragons have won their second baseball state champions in three years, behind clutch hitting and dominant pitching.

Malad (25-6) entered the 3A super-regional round with limited expectations. Two weeks later, they had finished their season on a nine-game winning streak, including five victories over highly ranked clubs from Grangeville, Orofino and Nampa Christian high schools.

This week, several Dragons were named to the IdahoSports.com 3A Baseball All-Tournament Team, as selected by Idaho Sports broadcasters.

Junior infielder Cale Briggs was named the Tournament MVP, after going 6-for-9, with three walks, three RBIs, five runs scored and two stolen bases.
