Sugar-Salem’s McInelly pulls in more honors; Diggers, Eagles earn all-tourney nods

EASTERN IDAHO — The Sugar-Salem Diggers made it back-to-back baseball State Championships, with a 3-0 run through the 4A tournament.
En route to the title, Sugar-Salem (22-4) handed the Fruitland Grizzlies their first two losses of the season. Now, the Diggers are adding accolades to the season that was with several selections to the IdahoSports.com 4A Baseball All-Tournament Team — chosen by Idaho Sports broadcasters.
Diggers two-way star Dawson McInelly made it a clean sweep, adding a 4A All-Tournament MVP to his Mountain Rivers All-Conference Player of the Year award, EastIdahoSports.com baseball Player of the Year award and the Gatorade Idaho Player of the Year award. McInelly, who was also selected as the EastIdahoSports.com football Player of the Year, went 6-for-8 with a homer, a triple, two doubles, five RBIs, four runs scored, four walks and two stolen bases. He also tossed a complete-game victory in the semifinals, holding the Marsh Valley Eagles (26-3) to four hits and two runs while striking out 11 and walking just two.
