Effort to Right Costa Concordia Cruise Ship Begins
Published at(GIGLIO ISLAND, Italy) — Almost two years after the Costa Concordia cruise ship capsized off the Italian coast, the operation to right the ship has begun.
The parbuckling started Monday morning after being delayed a few hours due to a night of stormy weather that prevented a barge carrying the control room of the removal operation from positioning itself next to the ship.
The head of the Italian Coast Guard says no other delays or technical problems are foreseen.
The Costa Concordia sank onto its side after hitting a reef off of the small island of Giglio on Jan. 13, 2012. In all, 32 people died.
