LAVA HOT SPRINGS — Those looking forward to a soak at the Lava Hot Springs World Famous Hot Pools on these chilly fall days will have to wait a few more weeks. The popular destination spot is temporarily closed for renovations, with a tentative reopening date of Nov. 7.

“Water is getting drained from the hot pools as we begin the first phase of reconstruction on our hottest pool,” said Destiny Egley, management assistant at the facility.

A groundbreaking ceremony was recently held to mark the start of the project, attended by board members, construction crews, and local supporters.

“Our hottest pool is very large and renovating it is complicated. Hot springs are not like a regular pool where you just drain it — they are constantly replenishing themselves naturally with new mineral water bubbling through the ground,” said Egley.

Egley expressed gratitude to the City of Lava Hot Springs, local businesses, and the community for their ongoing support.

“We have brilliant minds and skilled workers on the job to make sure the renovation goes as smoothly and efficiently as possible,” she said. “Thank you for your patience and support as we upgrade this pool so that it can be enjoyed for many more generations to come.”

While the tentative reopening date is Nov. 7, Egley noted that the timeline may shift depending on progress. When the facility reopens, the upper hot pool will remain closed until its portion of the project is completed.

“We’re nervous and excited about the renovation,” said Egley. “There’s never a good time for construction, but we’re excited for the new hot pool.”

In the meantime, Lava Hot Springs’ Indoor Aquatic Center and Kiddie Cove will remain open. Egley encourages visitors eager for a hot soak to explore other local hot spring options, which can be found at lavahotsprings.org.

Updates, including 3-D renderings of the renovated pools, will be shared at lavahotsprings.com and on Facebook as the project continues.
